Bone broth is a powerful tool for gut health, providing essential nutrients and supporting a healthy microbiome.

This recipe is designed to be easily digestible and packed with gut-nourishing ingredients.

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg organic, grass-fed beef bones (marrow bones are the best choice)

  • 2 carrots, roughly chopped

  • 2 celery stalks, roughly chopped

  • 1 onion, roughly chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed

  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme

  • 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary

  • 10 black peppercorns

  • 2 bay leaves

  • Filtered water

Directions:

Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F).

Place the bones on a baking tray and roast for 30 minutes or until lightly browned. This step helps deepen the broth’s flavour.

Transfer the roasted bones and vegetables to a large pot or slow cooker.

Add the apple cider vinegar, herbs, peppercorns, and bay leaves.

Cover the ingredients with filtered water, ensuring everything is submerged.

Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 24-48 hours. Longer simmering times extract more nutrients from the bones.

Strain the broth through a fine-mesh sieve and discard the solids.

Allow the broth to cool slightly before storing it in airtight containers in the refrigerator or freezer.

Bone broth is a fantastic way to support gut health. The broth’s collagen and gelatine can help heal the gut lining, while the amino acids provide essential building blocks for a healthy gut microbiome.
