Thoracic Outlet Syndrome

Thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS) is a specific condition where nerves or blood vessels between the collar bone and first rib are compressed causing pain in the shoulder and neck and/or numbness down the arm.

Types of TOS

The main types of TOS include:
Neurogenic (Neurological) - compression of the brachial plexus that come out from nerves in the neck that go down the arm to control muscle movements and sensations.
Vascular - either the veins or the arteries are compressed by the collar bone
Non-Specific - where there is pain at the thoracic outlet with increased activity but there is nothing specific that can be pin pointed.

Headaches, Migraines or Neck Pain?

End of year is coming up and school and uni exams are here!  Students begin their ATAR exams this week!  Those who are sitting with heads down, studying for long periods of time, can be experiencing headaches, migraines and or neck pain and/or stiffness.  But fear not, here are some easy tips for managing that pain and stiffness to get you through those exams.

headaches

  • Maintain good posture to allow muscles and bones to be in their most efficient position to work and relax.
  • Gently stretch muscles that are tight for a minimum of 15 seconds each time.
  • Take frequent breaks to recheck your posture and stretch.
  • Stay hydrated as some headaches can occur from dehydration.
  • Chiropractic may help to relieve symptoms when the above is not enough.

5th Birthday!

A little bit of History.......
Starting its life as a Real Estate Agency, the Hills Natural Health Centre building was built in 1977 and although a few minor modifications have been made the original layout is still pretty much the same with a Post Office and Gourmet Deli being part of the complex.

Coming from a Darlington home business, Hills Natural Health Centre established itself at 7 Railway Parade in 2006 with Dr Richard Lee joining the team in March 2007 and Dr Ryan Yiap commencing in July 2011.

Richard and Ryan then collaborated and have been partners in the business for the past amazing 5 years!
